Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity ocean marine property damage and ocean cargo claims. The role involves coverage evaluation, liability assessment, quantum analysis, and timely resolution while minimizing indemnity and expense exposure.

The candidate will direct investigations, coordinate with experts and outside counsel, and provide training to colleagues.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Experience in negotiation, mediations, arbitrations and monitoring trials on higher value complex claims.

Responsibilities

• Typically handles moderate to complex exposure ocean marine first and third party property damage claims including, but not limited to, Ocean Cargo, Commercial General Liability, Hull, Piers Wharves & Docks, Protection & Indemnity, and Marina Operator’s Legal Liability.
• Serves as primary contact person and/or claims designee for selected accounts.
• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.
• Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel, ensures effective vendor and litigation management on moderate to high complexity claims including demonstrable savings.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
• Prepares coverage position letters.
• Utilizes acceptable investigation claims handling and settlement techniques that achieve cost effective and timely closure results.
