Job summary

Markel in Red Bank, NJ, is seeking an experienced Senior Ocean Marine Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high exposure claims through mediation, litigation, or negotiation. You will manage coverage assessment, determine liability, and coordinate with experts and defense counsel while communicating progress to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Handle moderate to high exposure ocean marine first and third party property damage claims including, but not limited to Ocean Cargo, G/L, Hull, Piers & Docks, P&I, and Marina Operator’s Liability.
• Serve as primary contact and/or claims designee for selected accounts.
• Confirm coverage by reviewing policies and supporting documents.
• Direct and monitor assignments to experts and outside counsel with cost-effective management.
• Analyze coverage and prepare coverage position letters.
• Conduct investigations into loss facts and extent of damages and coordinate defense.
• Provide timely service through the life cycle of the claim and meet service level agreements.
