Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity ocean marine property damage and ocean cargo claims. You will manage coverage, liability assessment, and quantum analysis from enquiry through resolution, while mitigating indemnity and expense exposure and updating stakeholders.

The role requires strong negotiation, mediation, and litigation coordination skills, with licensing in required states and industry designations preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years ocean marine or liability claims handling experience
• Active claims adjuster license in applicable states or eligibility
• Industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU, AMIM) preferred

Responsibilities

• Handle moderate to high complexity ocean marine and cargo claims including coverage review, liability assessment, and quantum analysis.
• Direct and monitor assignments to experts and outside counsel; manage vendors and litigation.
• Analyze coverage positions and prepare coverage letters.
• Conduct investigations into loss facts and damages; gather and review policy provisions.
• Set reserves within authority and make recommendations to management.
• Negotiate and settle claims; present at roundtables for higher exposure cases.
• Provide training/mentorship to colleagues and participate in special projects.
