Job summary

Markel Group in Rosemont, IL seeks a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve complex ocean marine and liability claims from coverage inquiry through liability assessment and quantum analysis. You will manage reserves, coordinate with experts, and communicate outcomes to stakeholders.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of ocean marine or liability claims experience, a Bachelor’s degree (JD or advanced degree a plus), and an active claims license.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• JD , advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus

Responsibilities

• Typically handles moderate to complex exposure ocean marine first and third party property damage claims including Ocean Cargo, CGL, Hull, Piers Wharves & Docks and more.
• Serves as primary contact for selected accounts.
• Confirms coverage by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.
• Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel; ensures vendor and litigation management.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions; prepares letters.
• Uses standard investigation techniques to achieve timely closure and manage costs.
• Conducts and directs loss investigations and evaluates damages.
• Provides timely service and meets service level agreements throughout the claim life cycle.
• Evaluates insured exposure based on information gathered; sets reserves within authority.
• Negotiates and settles claims; prepares reports and presentations.
