Job summary

Markel is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity ocean marine and liability claims, from coverage inquiry through liability assessment and quantum analysis. The role requires handling high-stakes disputes, directing experts and outside counsel, and communicating developments to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• 5+ years of ocean marine or liability claims handling experience or equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Handles moderate to complex exposure ocean marine and liability claims.
• Serves as primary contact for selected accounts.
• Reviews policies to confirm coverage; directs assignments to experts and counsel.
• Monitors litigation management; analyzes coverage and prepares position letters.
• Conducts investigations and fact-finding to determine damages and exposure.
• Provides timely service and communicates with stakeholders throughout the claim lifecycle.
• Sets reserves within authority and negotiates settlements.
• Prepares reports and presents high-exposure cases to senior leaders.
