Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects in our Reston, VA office. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to major systems and plant processes.

You will prepare calculations, review reports, mentor junior engineers, and interface with clients to present technical discussions and project status. This role demands extensive nuclear power experience and strong technical writing.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with thermodynamics/heat transfer/fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and turbine retrofit projects.
• Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Prepare calculations and reports on heat balance, pumps, exchangers, and plant hazards.
• Interface with clients and project teams; develop proposals and cost estimates.
• Mentor junior engineers and perform independent reviews.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns.
