Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer for its Nuclear Power Group in the United States. The role focuses on uprate projects, evaluating licensing bases, and applying thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to major plant systems.

Responsibilities include client-facing work, proposal development, and mentoring junior engineers. Experience includes 10+ years in nuclear power, knowledge of uprates or turbine retrofit projects, and strong technical reporting.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Strong knowledge of heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and circulating water/ultimate heat sinks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to power plant engineering.
• Perform consulting work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations with clear technical information for clients.
• Perform equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection for uprates.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant tasks.
• Review other's work including calculations and drawings.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and satisfaction.
