Job summary

Sargent & Lundy | Nuclear Power Group seeks a senior mechanical engineer to lead licensing basis work and evaluate components for nuclear uprate projects. The role applies thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics across major systems and equipment in power plants.

Responsibilities include calculating heat balances, pumps, exchangers, and hazards; developing proposals and cost estimates; and mentoring junior engineers on project tasks.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Knowledge of heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
• Strong technical report writing and calculations experience.
• Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulations for nuclear plant design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to power plant engineering tasks.
• Prepare calculations and reports to support client recommendations and reviews.
• Lead and mentor junior staff on power plant engineering tasks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and status.
