Job summary

Sargent & Lundy, a leader in nuclear power engineering, seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to drive licensing basis work and uprate evaluations for existing plants. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to optimize plant performance and safety.

Lead complex calculations, prepare reports, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with clients and project teams. Ideal candidates hold a B.S.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Experience and practical knowledge in balance of plant system evaluations and heat balance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical report writing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics in power plant engineering.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations presenting technical information clearly.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers on power plant engineering tasks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Perform independent reviews of work and attend client meetings/site walkdowns.
