Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Charlotte, NC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to support client recommendations in major systems and plant processes.

Responsibilities include coordinating with clients, preparing calculations, and mentoring junior engineers. This role follows a hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence three days per week.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10 or more years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics knowledge to power plant engineering tasks.
• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, and condenser/heat sink.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations for client requirements.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant tasks.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and satisfaction.
