Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Richmond, VA seeks a senior Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis work and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to assess power plants, size equipment, and prepare calculations and reports for client reviews.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program; strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Knowledge of heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and related systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Perform calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations for client requirements.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering tasks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
