Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join its Mechanical Systems team for Industrial Water projects. The role involves leading a design team, coordinating across US and international design groups, and delivering mechanical designs for water and wastewater facilities.

The candidate will develop P&IDs, equipment layouts, and data sheets, while providing technical guidance and mentoring. A strong background in industrial water and FEL processes is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
• Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements.
• Ability to complete pre-employment background checks where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of mechanical engineers on system design for industrial water/wastewater projects.
• Develop engineering deliverables including process and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical equipment layouts, piping isometrics and equipment data sheets.
• Provide technical guidance on engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters.
• Ensure designs comply with company standards, client requirements, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
• Review vendor and contractor submittals, calculations, shop drawings, and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.
• Lead and mentor junior mechanical engineers by assigning tasks, teaching skills and reviewing progress.
• Act as the Responsible Engineer for various mechanical systems or equipment.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines and project stakeholders.
• Understand the Industrial Water industry and be able to adapt to different delivery methods.
• Manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced project environment.
• Ensure compliance with company quality management procedures and project-specific QA/QC requirements.
