Blue Origin in Seattle, WA is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for the New Glenn Stage 1 Landing Gear Subsystem.

This role owns end‑to‑end design, analysis, and qualification of landing gear hardware for a reusable booster, with a focus on reliability, simplicity, and cost‑effectiveness. You will drive designs through concept, detailed design, testing, and rate production, while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, or related field.
• 8+ years designing mechanical/electro‑mechanical systems for aerospace/high‑reliability apps.
• Hands‑on concept‑through‑qualification for spacecraft/launch vehicles.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred).
• GD&T per ASME Y14.5 with tolerance stack analysis.
• Experience with manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing; configuration control (Windchill).
• Ability to justify margins and test sequences for aerospace systems.
• Strong technical writing and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end lifecycle of landing gear components and mechanisms.
• Design deployable structures and mechanisms with attention to deployment and touchdown paths.
• Create drawings and interface control documents; apply GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Perform material selection and structural/kinematic/dynamic analysis to show margins.
• Design for reusability with refurbishment considerations for rapid reuse.
• Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure producibility and cost targets.
• Develop specifications, support sourcing, and manage suppliers through qualification.
• Lead development and qualification test campaigns; instrument and analyze data; resolve anomalies.
• Contribute to safety analyses and system fault assessments.
• Mentor junior engineers and support on floor integration and issue resolution.
