Job summary

Swiss Re is seeking a skilled Life & Health underwriter to join our U.S. underwriting team, supporting a diverse client base across multiple locations, with hybrid office expectations and remote flexibility for exceptional candidates.

You will apply evidence-based risk selection, collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams, and stay current with Life Guide guidance while traveling up to 10% for meetings and seminars.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Life & Health underwriting experience on the insurance or reinsurance side with proficiency in risk selection and case management.
• FLMI and/or FALU designation, or active progress toward earning one.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled underwriting tools, digital resources, and interest in process innovation.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills with a track record of building client and stakeholder relationships.
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills to balance high-volume workload.

Responsibilities

• Apply disciplined, evidence-based risk selection across medical, non-medical, financial, product, market, and governance considerations, meeting service standards.
• Escalate complex or unusual matters and apply Swiss Re guidelines in a commercially sound way.
• Partner with clients and internal cross-functional teams to provide underwriting expertise for projects.
• Promote Life Guide and stay current on updates to help clients apply its guidance.
• Participate in annual client underwriting seminars, webinars, thought leadership discussions, and related engagements.
• Support a culture of continuous learning by attending internal training programs and meetings.
• Maintain knowledge of core insurance products, legislation, taxation, underwriting tools, digital resources, AI-enabled capabilities and system enhancements.
• Travel as needed (≈10% or less) for internal meetings and client engagements.
