Job summary

Swiss Re is seeking a sharp Life & Health underwriter to join our U.S. underwriting team. You will apply evidence-based risk selection across medical, financial, product and governance factors, delivering exceptional client service and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will lead complex judgments with analytical rigor, maintain knowledge of core products and updates to our underwriting manual, and participate in client seminars while supporting a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications

• 5+ years Life & Health Underwriting experience on the insurance or reinsurance side.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for risk assessment.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with clients and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled underwriting tools and digital resources.
• Ability to manage time and workload independently in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

• Apply disciplined, evidence-based risk selection across medical, non-medical, financial, product, market, and governance considerations.
• Escalate complex or unusual matters appropriately and apply Swiss Re guidelines.
• Partner with clients and internal cross-functional teams to provide underwriting expertise.
• Promote Life Guide and stay current on updates.
• Participate in annual client underwriting seminars, webinars and industry discussions.
• Support a culture of continuous learning through internal training and meetings.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of core insurance products, legislation, taxation, and underwriting tools.
• Travel as needed (up to 10%) for meetings and conferences.
