Job summary

HBK - Hottinger Brüel & Kjær is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Simulation Workbench (SimWB) in the USA. You will be the senior engineer driving the real-time Linux-based SimWB platform, owning the scheduler, configuration server, and end‑to‑end subsystems, while shaping technical direction for the team.

As the top contributor, you will mentor engineers, review designs, and collaborate with the Manager on roadmap decisions.

Qualifications

10+ years of software development in a Linux environment.
C/C++ expert with working knowledge of Java.
Experience with real-time systems, including scheduling and determinism.
Hands-on with I/O boards and device-level software.

Responsibilities

Own and evolve core SimWB subsystems, including real-time scheduler and configuration server.
Design and debug I/O support for cards and FPGA boards; integrate communication protocols (EtherCAT, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, Ethernet).
Develop and maintain the SimWB SDK and API surfaces for customers and internal teams.
Diagnose and resolve complex real-time issues involving timing and hardware/software integration.
Provide technical escalation support with Support and Applications Engineering teams.
Produce and maintain design documentation to retain critical product knowledge.
Set coding and design standards and mentor Lead/Senior Engineers; raise the team's technical bar.
Collaborate with the SimWB Manager on roadmap and architecture decisions.
