Job summary

HBK Hottinger Brüel & Kjaer (HBK) is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer for the Simulation Workbench team. You will lead end-to-end development of the real-time SimWB platform running on real-time Linux and driving various I/O hardware and FPGA interfaces.

You will own core subsystems, set design standards, and partner with the Manager on roadmap decisions while mentoring senior engineers. This is a hands-on senior IC role with broad technical authority.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience in a Linux environment.
• Expert-level C and C++, with working knowledge of Java.
• Experience with real-time systems including scheduling and determinism.
• Hands-on experience with I/O boards and device-level software.
• Experience owning a significant subsystem end to end.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop or man-in-the-loop simulation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve core SimWB subsystems, including the real-time scheduler and configuration server.
• Design, implement, and debug I/O support for cards and FPGA interfaces, including EtherCAT, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, serial and Ethernet.
• Develop and maintain the SimWB SDK and API surfaces for customers and internal teams.
• Diagnose and resolve complex real-time issues involving timing and determinism.
• Provide deep technical escalation support with Support and Applications Engineering teams.
• Produce and maintain design documentation to retain critical product knowledge.
• Serve as the technical lead: set coding standards, review designs, mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with the SimWB Manager on roadmap and architecture decisions.
