Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead design and analysis for complex equipment and piping systems on a nuclear-focused project. The role blends hands-on engineering with client interface and mentorship.

Hybrid work arrangement in the Albuquerque area, with opportunities for career advancement and exposure to diverse multidisciplinary challenges in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and vessel design. U.S. citizenship and security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• ABET-accredited BSME/MSME with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design or thermal systems
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a nuclear environment
• Experience in designs/analyses for piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, or radioactive material handling systems
• Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME AG-1
• Experience with FEA or advanced engineering software (ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, HAP, Trace 700)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design engineering on a multi-disciplinary project team.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Prepare design inputs for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, GA) and equipment specifications.
• Communicate with vendors with complete specifications.
• Prepare and review reports and studies.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans; monitor progress.
• Interface with customers in project meetings.
• Mentor junior engineers.
