Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role in the United States. You will lead mechanical design on multidisciplinary projects, review calculations, and develop equipment specifications while collaborating with customers and vendors.

The position requires a strong background in thermodynamics and machine design, with 10+ years of experience and eligibility for US government security clearance.

Qualifications

• Must hold an ABET-accredited engineering degree (BSME/MSME).
• Evidence of strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, ideally in a nuclear environment.
• Experience designing and analyzing piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
• Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping Codes, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, and AG-1.
• Familiarity with CAD/FEA tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts on a multidisciplinary project team.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Develop design input for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, general arrangements).
• Prepare and review equipment specifications and vendor communications.
• Produce and review reports and studies.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans and monitor progress.
• Interface with customers in project meetings.
• Mentor junior engineers.
