Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead Mechanical Engineer in the United States (Atlanta area) with a strong background in design and analysis of equipment, piping, and pressure vessels for nuclear-related projects. The role offers hybrid work arrangements and opportunities for career advancement within a multidisciplinary design team.

Candidates should have 12+ years of experience, ABET-accredited engineering degrees, and the ability to obtain a US government security clearance.

Qualifications

Must obtain US Government security clearance.
ABET-accredited engineering degree (BSME/MSME) required.
12+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, ideally in a nuclear environment.
Experience with piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
Familiarity with codes and standards: ASME B31, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME AG-1.
Experience with FEM/CAEs such as ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, Hourly Analysis Program, or Trace 700.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design engineering on a multi-disciplinary project team for equipment, pressure vessels, interfacing systems and structural supports.
Monitor and guide assigned staff to meet project schedules and budgets.
Prepare and review complex calculations.
Prepare and review mechanical systems/equipment designs.
Prepare design inputs for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, general arrangements).
Prepare and review equipment specifications.
Communicate with vendors via precise specifications.
Prepare and review reports and studies.
Develop budgets, schedules, and work plans; monitor progress within budget and schedule.
Interface with customers in project meetings.
Mentor junior engineers.
