Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive design on a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on special-purpose equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems. The role emphasizes thermodynamics, heat transfer, and machine design within a nuclear context.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• ABET-accredited BSME/MSME with interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a nuclear environment.
• Experience with piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
• Working knowledge of ASME codes and regulations (e.g., ASME B31 piping, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, AG-1).
• Experience with FEA or advanced engineering software (e.g., ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, Hourly Analysis Program, Trace 700).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design on a multi-disciplinary project team for equipment, vessels, and interfacing systems.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Create and review equipment specifications and design inputs for drawings.
• Interface with customers in project meetings and mentor junior engineers.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans to meet targets.
