Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role combining work from home and in-office collaboration. You will lead mechanical design on a multi-disciplinary project team, focusing on special purpose equipment, pressure vessels, interfacing systems, controls, and structural support.

The position involves mentoring junior engineers, reviewing complex calculations, and preparing detailed designs and specifications.

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
BSME or MSME degree from ABET-accredited program with thermodynamics/heat transfer coursework.
12+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a nuclear environment.
Experience designing/analyzing piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and radioactive material handling systems.
Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, and ASME AG-1.
Experience with FEAs or advanced engineering software (ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, HAP, Trace 700).
Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, MicroStation, AutoCAD).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design engineering on a multi-disciplinary project team.
Monitor and guide staff on technical matters, managing tasks within schedule and budget.
Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical system designs.
Prepare design inputs for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, general arrangements).
Prepare and review equipment specifications and technical reports.
Communicate with vendors via precise specifications.
Interface with customers in project meetings; mentor junior engineers.
