Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead-level Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role in which you will drive mechanical design on multi-discipline projects, including pressure vessels and interfacing systems. You will mentor junior engineers and interact with customers to ensure design excellence and schedule adherence.

The ideal candidate holds a BSME/MSME from an ABET-accredited program with 12+ years in mechanical engineering, preferably in a nuclear setting, and can obtain a US government security

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• BSME or MSME degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
• 12+ years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment.
• Experience with designing and analyzing piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and radioactive material handling systems.
• Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations (ASME B31 piping, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, AG-1).
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis or advanced engineering software (ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, Trace 700).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design engineering on a multi-disciplinary team for special purpose equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems.
• Monitor staff work on technical matters and manage tasks to fit project budgets and schedules.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Prepare input for drawings (P&IDs, machine layouts, general arrangements).
• Prepare and review equipment specifications and vendor communications.
• Prepare and review technical reports and studies.
• Develop budgets, schedules, and work plans and monitor progress within budget.
• Interface with customers in project meetings and mentor junior engineers.
