Job summary

Dow Inc. is seeking a Senior IP Counsel to provide strategic IP counsel within its Commercial & Innovation Law group, located in Lake Jackson, TX or Midland, MI.

The role focuses on intellectual property matters related to Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics business, including patents, licensing, and technology development. You will lead IP strategies, manage patent portfolios, draft and prosecute patent applications, and coordinate with outside counsel while collaborating with global teams to

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or Master of Laws.
• A minimum of 4 years practicing Intellectual Property law either in-house or with a major law firm.
• Admission to State Bar or eligible for admission.
• BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar technology.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO.
• U.S. work authorization without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Provide counsel on a broad range of IP matters including patents, trade secrets, licensing, technology development, and IP-related transactions.
• Review, draft, and negotiate technology development agreements, research collaborations, confidentiality agreements, license agreements, joint development agreements, and related filings.
• Identify IP risks and opportunities in business meetings and develop solutions that enable innovation and growth.
• Develop IP strategies that align with business objectives and maximize value of IP assets.
• Build and manage patent portfolios including drafting and prosecuting patent applications; manage outside counsel.
• Host client legal training on topics aligned with Legal department curriculum.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and delegate work to paralegals and staff as appropriate.
• Manage outside counsel and external resources in line with department policies.
