Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced inpatient coder to join the Coding Production Operations team. The role covers ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding for high-dollar inpatient cases within a remote-friendly environment.

Applicants should hold AHIMA or AAPC certification and an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management, with at least seven years of inpatient coding experience in acute care. Strong ethics, communication, and collaboration with CDI teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field.
• 7 years inpatient coding experience in acute care facility.
• Advanced proficiency of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS guidelines.
• Strong knowledge of federal and insurance coding regulations.
• Ability to work with EMR and coding software in a compliant manner.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Review complex inpatient documentation to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes.
• Adhere to Official Coding Guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Code high-dollar and long length of stay cases across patient types.
• Act as SME to Coding leaders and peers; propose policy updates.
• Maintain ongoing education and stay current with CPT/HCPCS guidelines.
• Collaborate with CDI and Quality teams to ensure DRG accuracy.
• Communicate with clinicians regarding coding and documentation needs.
