Adventist HealthCare seeks an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our Medical Coding Department. This remote role focuses on applying ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding per official guidelines to support hospital reporting and reimbursement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Formal education in Health Information Management or a related field.
• One of the following credentials: CCS, RHIT, RHIA.
• Candidates holding a CPC credential must obtain the CCS certification within 6 months to 1 year of hire.
• Acute hospital coding role/inpatient coding experience preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years performing inpatient coding in an acute hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes computerized encoder and other systems related to completing the coding process.
• Accurately abstract inpatient accounts required for hospital reporting to federal, state, and organizational outlets.
• Maintain and increase personal knowledge to stay current with coding industry trends.
• Adheres to official coding guidelines and standards (AHIMA).
• Revenue Integrity, resolving coding and documentation issues related to reimbursement and compliance.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation within the medical record.
• Create physician queries to clarify documentation and inconsistencies.
• Monitor and report documentation discrepancies to the coding manager.
