Job summary

MAXIMUS is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client in a full-time remote role. You will lead COBOL development, update documentation, and mentor other developers while ensuring high-quality delivery.

The position requires 5+ years of relevant experience, an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation, and strong skills in COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, and SQL. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to coding standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least four years of IBM COBOL programming experience.
• Experience with DB2, IBM DB2 utilities, and CICS.
• Preferred: IRS processing systems experience, SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of software solutions that meet business requirements; design, implement, unit test, troubleshoot, and propose solutions.
• Evaluate new coding techniques, tools, and modules and implement as appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition; design software per specifications.
• Code software solutions per designs and perform code reviews and unit testing.
