Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to lead protection philosophies, settings, and studies for transmission and substation projects. You will configure microprocessor relays, manage data in Powerbase, and support commissioning and field tasks within a hybrid work arrangement.

The role emphasizes collaboration with utility clients, equipment manufacturers, and construction teams, with a relocation package offered depending on location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 7+ years of system protection engineering experience for transmission/substation projects.
• Hands-on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
• Strong background in protection philosophies for line, transformer, bus, capacitor/reactor protection.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with relay software such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NERC/PRC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings.
• Perform short-circuit analyses and relay coordination.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays.
• Manage relay records using Powerbase and ensure documentation aligns with standards.
• Support commissioning, field questions, and RFIs related to protection and control.
• Review P&C design documents including one‑lines, schematics and wiring diagrams.
