Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, perform system protection studies, and configure microprocessor relays for high‑voltage transmission and substation projects, collaborating with design, commissioning, and clients.

This hybrid role requires 10+ years of protection experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophy and relay logic.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Proficiency with protection configuration tools: SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, or similar.
• Experience using Powerbase or similar relay/asset databases.
• Ability to review P&C drawings: one‑lines, schematics, wiring/logic diagrams.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NERC/PRC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and align settings with client standards and change control processes.
• Support field commissioning, review relay test plans, and assist with issue resolution.
