Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. This role leads protection philosophies, settings, and studies for transmission and substations, with a focus on relay coordination and fault analysis.

You will configure protective relays, manage data in Powerbase, and support commissioning and field energization. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and relocation assistance, depending on location.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission and/or substation projects.
Experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
Experience with relay configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Lead protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
Perform short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time-current curve development.
Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor-based protective relays.
Use Powerbase or similar databases to manage relay records and data.
Support commissioning, field energization, and review test plans.
Review P&C design documents including one-lines, three-lines, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
Ensure protection schemes comply with IEEE/ANSI and NERC PRC standards.
