Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to lead protection philosophy development, relay settings, and studies for transmission and substation projects. You will configure protective relays, support P&C design, and help ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC standards while coordinating with clients and field teams.

The role includes a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days, plus a generous relocation package depending on location.

Qualifications

• ABET‑accredited BSEE; 7+ years in system protection for transmission/substation.
• Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
• Knowledge of CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Familiarity with Powerbase or similar databases for protection data management.
• Ability to read P&C drawings: one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring/logic diagrams.
• Knowledge of IEEE/ANSI/NERC/PRC standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication; coordinating with clients, manufacturers, and field teams.
• Experience leading portions of projects with cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, capacitor and reactor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analyses and relay coordination; develop time-current curves.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays with vendor software.
• Review P&C design documents and markups to guide substation design teams.
• Support commissioning and field energization; respond to RFIs and field questions.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams to meet schedule, quality, and client standards.
