Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in a hybrid role. You will lead protection philosophies, settings, and system protection studies for transmission and substation projects, and support P&C design and commissioning.

You will coordinate with clients, equipment manufacturers, and field teams, applying standards and best practices to ensure reliable protection schemes and data management across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Hands‑on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Familiarity with protection and control drawings and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and switchgear.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software (e.g., SEL AcSELerator).
• Manage relay records and data in Powerbase; align with client standards and change controls.
• Review P&C designs and coordinate with substation design teams on one‑/three‑line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
• Support commissioning, field energization, RFIs, and issue resolution during construction.
