Job summary

ABB in the United States seeks a Senior Technical Business Developer to expand the Grid Automation portfolio. The role leads market penetration strategy, engages utilities and partners, and reports to the Product Marketing Director with functional alignment to Global Portfolio Management.

This is a remote position with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX, requiring up to 30% travel as needed to drive growth across the U.S. market.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
9+ years of experience in technical business development.
Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics and grid standards (IEEE, IEC 61850).
Willingness to travel up to 30% - domestic and international.

Responsibilities

Market strategy leadership – Drive U.S. growth by identifying utility/industrial opportunities and shaping market penetration strategy.
Technical engagement – Act as a gridautomation SME and lead presales activities across architectures and protection systems.
Standards influence – Contribute to IEEE/IEC working groups and interoperability frameworks.
Ecosystem & innovation – Build strategic partnerships and evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
