Job summary

ABB's Distribution Solutions Division seeks a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the expansion of the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. market. You will bridge advanced grid technologies with a focused market penetration strategy, engaging utilities and key partners.

This remote role reports to the Product Marketing Director and requires strong presales technical leadership, travel up to 30%, and experience with IEEE/IEC standards, DERMS, and digital substations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.

Responsibilities

• Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities and shaping market penetration strategy.
• Lead presales technical activities and support solution design across architectures and integration workflows.
• Contribute to IEEE/IEC standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Build strategic partnerships and represent ABB at industry forums to evolve offerings.
