Job summary

ABB's Distribution Solutions is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the growth of our Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. market. You will bridge advanced grid tech with a focused market penetration strategy, engaging utilities and key partners.

This remote role reports to the Product Marketing Director and collaborates with Global Portfolio Management. Preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX, but candidates anywhere in the US are welcome.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years in technical business development, preferably grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in energy.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead US growth by identifying utility/industrial automation opportunities and market penetration.
• Act as grid automation SME, lead presales technical activities, support solution design.
• Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, shaping standards and interoperability.
• Build strategic partnerships and represent ABB at industry forums; channel field insights to offerings like SSC600, SMU600, CogniEN.
