Job summary

ABB in the United States is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to expand the Grid Automation portfolio. This role leads market penetration, engages utilities and partners, and shapes solution development.

The position is remote with preferred locations Cary, NC or Houston, TX, reporting to the Product Marketing Director and Global Portfolio Management of Grid Components. The candidate will drive growth through technical leadership, standards influence (IEEE/IEC 61850), and ecosystem

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership — Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities, shaping market penetration strategy, and securing product homologation with key utilities.
• Technical engagement — Act as a grid‑automation SME, lead pre‑sales technical activities, and support solution design across architectures, protection systems, and integration workflows.
• Standards influence — Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, representing the company to help shape emerging grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation — Build strategic partnerships, represent the company at industry forums, and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
