Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank, and this Senior Software Engineer role sits in the engineering team that runs it. You will own the bank's systems end-to-end, design, build, integrate, operate, and respond to incidents, with AI-first tooling and vendor integrations.

You’ll work with senior engineers, legal, compliance, risk, and examiners to shape a greenfield, regulated fintech platform. This remote-first role offers ownership and impact from day one.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to move fast in ambiguity while balancing speed with engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex) and agentic workflows.
• Strong systems thinking across AWS, Terraform, and Snowflake.
• Experience in banking/payments or other regulated environments.
• Ability to document decisions for examiner/audit review.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and respond to incidents.
• Set and improve coding standards and documentation on a small team.
• Ship AI-first initiatives to improve code quality, velocity, and operations.
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end, including integration and audits.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit from day one.
• Monitor, alert, and runbooks to keep systems reliable and audit-ready.
• Communicate strategy and constraints clearly to executives and cross-team engineers.
• Mentor growing engineers and lead by example.
