Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company seeks an Underwriting Specialist in Contract Underwriting for the Excess & Surplus/Specialty line. You will determine acceptability, pricing and coverage by evaluating complex risks for assigned lines with high technical requirements.

You’ll work with general agents, program managers and reinsurers to drive profitability and ensure alignment with product strategies. Some travel and cross-functional collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalently, substantial underwriting experience considered.
• CPCU/CIC/AU/ARM/CPIW/CWIS/ASLI professional courses preferred.
• Six years related experience or five years as an underwriter, excess & surplus lines background.

Responsibilities

• Review risks with agents/programs and decide to decline or accept.
• Analyze exposures to loss and determine premium and endorsements.
• Place reinsurance per guidelines and manage book profitability.
• Collaborate with agents, program managers and product/tech teams on implementation.
• Monitor risk selection and pricing for entire agency plant and programs.
• Develop marketing ideas and strategies for underwriting seminars and campaigns.
• Foster positive relationships with general agents and reinsurers.
