Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company seeks an experienced Underwriting Consultant for Brokerage Excess in the E&S/Specialty space. You will underwrite risks, price, and set terms, managing broker relations with high authority on complex accounts.

The ideal candidate has eight years of commercial lines underwriting experience, strong reinsurance knowledge, and the ability to mentor junior underwriters. This is a remote role with national coverage, travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Eight years CL underwriting experience handling large or complex accounts, excess & surplus lines preferred.
• Knowledge of complex CL underwriting policies, practices and procedures, insurance law and underwriting/marketing principles.
• Knowledge of Standard Bureau Rating plans and concepts such as catastrophe management.
• Knowledge of Alternative rating methods and plans and pricing theory.
• Knowledge of Treaty & Facultative reinsurance.
• Knowledge of regulatory issues, wholesale broker system, market conditions and company operations.
• Leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Responsibilities

• Researches and develops new classes of business as directed.
• Researches market trends and competition.
• Assesses market viability, creates forms & endorsements, and develops rates with actuarial support.
• On large, complex accounts, partners with Actuarial to develop rates/pricing and with Finance to review profitability.
• Reviews risks with brokers and determines whether to decline or accept.
• Underwrites with technical expertise, determines endorsements and exclusions.
• Places reinsurance for the account as appropriate.
• Achieves team/individual production and loss ratio goals with brokers.
