Job summary

Nationwide’s Excess & Surplus/Specialty lines require a Senior Underwriter to assess risk acceptability, pricing, and terms for the Excess Casualty line. You will review exposures, losses, and endorsements while maintaining broker relationships and coordinating with reinsurers.

The role involves managing risk across brokers/program managers, meeting production and loss ratio goals, and applying department guidelines to reinsurance placements when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of underwriting policies, practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of rating plans and concepts.
• Knowledge of reinsurance concepts.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to analyze insurance risks to determine acceptability.

Responsibilities

• Review risks with brokers and decide to decline or accept.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals with brokers.
• Handle mid-term policy maintenance items and endorsements.
• Place reinsurance within guidelines when needed.
• Foster broker relationships and travel for training/marketing.
• Develop technical and business knowledge through internal/external venues.
