Job summary

Affimr in the United States is seeking a seasoned backend engineering leader to own quarterly goals, guide engineers through ambiguity, and ensure delivery of scalable systems. You will collaborate across product, design, and analytics to align on technical constraints and risk-aware trade-offs.

You’ll lead operations, establish code quality standards, and mentor teammates, while pushing for growth and strong communication within a global team. Remote-first with flexibility.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience scaling Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Terraform.
• Define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with an elegant, simple, extensible design.
• Write high quality code that is easily understood and reused.
• Able to make significant changes in a large code base and build tools to enable safe delivery.
• Demonstrates ownership of growth, seeks feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics in ideation and trade-off decisions.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, tech, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts with metrics and on-call efforts.
• Set or improve code review and design standards and advocate them beyond the team.
• Develop talent by providing feedback, guidance and leading by example.
