Job summary

Affimr is seeking a senior backend engineering leader to own quarterly goals, guide a team of engineers through ambiguity, and ensure delivery with quality.

You will collaborate with product, design and analytics to articulate constraints, trade-offs, and risks while maintaining reliable, scalable backend systems. This remote-first role offers flexibility and opportunities for in-person onboarding.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience scaling Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Terraform.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Strong code quality and ability to make large changes safely.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and ownership of personal growth.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for collaboration with global teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity to deliver.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics in ideation and decision making, considering risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts; monitor metrics and participate in on-call efforts.
• Set or improve code review and design standards and advocate for them beyond your team.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and leading by example.
