Job summary

Affimr is seeking a senior backend/infra engineer to own quarterly goals, lead engineers, and drive scalable data infrastructure in a remote-friendly environment. This role centers on building reliable, high-availability systems using Python or Kotlin, AWS, Kubernetes, and a suite of modern data technologies.

You will influence design, mentor teammates, and collaborate across product, design, and analytics to deliver impactful features with quality code and robust operations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale with Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience scaling Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Terraform.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Proven ability to make large codebase changes safely with tooling and practices.
• Demonstrated ownership of growth and seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product, design & analytics; participate in ideation and decision-making with risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead solving project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating metrics and on-call participation.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across teams.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
