Job summary

BECU is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to build and maintain enterprise-grade data pipelines and cloud data solutions in a hybrid role based in Washington state. You will design multi-tier systems, support data workflows ranging from batch to API-based integrations, and collaborate with architects and product teams on roadmaps and modernization efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of functional experience in data engineering.
• Minimum 4 years coding experience with Python, Scala, Java, and SQL.
• Cloud technologies including Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Modern data platforms: Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake.
• ETL/ELT and cloud data integration tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs, Azure Storage, Azure Functions, Container Apps, API Management).
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes/lakehouses; enterprise data stores.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex multi-tier systems for cloud-native data solutions and integration services.
• Coordinate design and development of data workflows (batch, near real-time, API-based).
• Develop prototypes and scalable data solutions aligned with business needs.
• Support metadata management, data governance, quality, lineage across pipelines.
• Guide data curation policies across platforms and workflows.
• Mentor teams through design/code reviews, testing, and development activities.
• Document roadmaps with architects and leadership; support cloud modernization.
• Contribute to CI/CD, testing, and code quality initiatives; promote best practices.
• Support monitoring/observability to improve pipeline performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with architecture governance/security/platform teams to deliver secure reusable data products.
• Present technical topics to engineering audiences and grow data engineering capabilities.
