Job summary

BECU is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize enterprise-scale data pipelines in cloud environments, delivering reliable analytics and reporting.

You will collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and governance teams to ensure data quality, security, and scalable solutions that support AI-driven capabilities. Remote-friendly role across multiple states with opportunities to influence cloud modernization and data strategy across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of functional experience in data engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience coding in Python, Scala, Java, SQL.
• Demonstrated experience using cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Demonstrated experience with modern data platforms (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Experience with ETL/ELT, SQL, and Azure services (Data Factory, SQL, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs, Storage, Functions).
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data lake/lakehouse solutions, and CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub).
• Experience using Git, code reviews, and branching (Git Flow / Trunk-Based).

Responsibilities

• Design enterprise data solutions across multi-tier systems with cloud-native data services.
• Build scalable data pipelines for batch, near real-time, and API integrations.
• Drive technical innovation with prototypes and scalable data solutions balancing tech and business needs.
• Champion data governance: metadata, data quality, lineage, and master data policies.
• Enable data curation across platforms according to technical requirements.
• Mentor data engineering teams through design reviews, testing, and development tasks.
• Collaborate with Architects, Product Owners, and leadership on roadmaps and cloud modernization.
• Elevate engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality standards.
• Improve reliability and observability of pipelines and data products.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity and quality.
• Partner with security, governance, and platform teams to deliver secure, reusable data products.
• Present technical topics to engineering audiences and grow data capabilities across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with BECU competencies, regulatory, and information protection requirements.
