Job summary

BECU is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and scale enterprise data pipelines in a cloud-native environment. You will collaborate with architects, product owners, and security to deliver secure, scalable data solutions that enable analytics and AI capabilities.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to governance and data quality, and help drive cloud modernization across the data platform. Remote or hybrid work options are available, with occasional HQ visits as applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of functional experience in data engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in Python, Scala, Java, SQL.
• Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Experience with modern data platforms (Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Experience using ETL/ELT, SQL, and Azure data services (ADF, SQL, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs, Storage, Functions).
• Experience with data modeling, warehousing, ODS, data lake/lakehouse; strong SQL.
• Experience with CI/CD systems (Azure DevOps, GitHub) and code reviews.
• Experience with Git, branching standards (Git Flow/Trunk).
• Knowledge of financial services domain is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and build enterprise data solutions for cloud-native data platforms.
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and streaming data.
• Advance technical innovation balancing engineering excellence with business needs.
• Support metadata, data quality, lineage, and governance within pipelines.
• Guide data curation policies across platforms based on requirements.
• Mentor data engineering teams through reviews, testing, and delivery.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and leadership on roadmaps.
• Uphold coding standards, CI/CD, tests, and code quality practices.
• Improve observability and reliability of data pipelines.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., Copilot) to boost productivity.
