Job summary

BECU is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and build enterprise-scale data pipelines and cloud-native solutions. You will work with analytics, governance, and platform teams to enable secure, scalable data products and AI-enabled capabilities across the organization.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to CI/CD and testing standards, and help shape the future of data architecture in a collaborative, remote-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of functional experience in data engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in coding languages like Python, Scala, Java, SQL.
• Demonstrated experience using cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Demonstrated experience using modern data platforms (Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Demonstrated experience using ETL/ELT, SQL, and cloud data integration tools and Azure Services.
• Demonstrated experience using SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes/lakehouse.

Responsibilities

• Design Enterprise Data Solutions: design and develop complex, multi-tier systems for cloud-native data solutions.
• Build Scalable Data Pipelines: coordinate and develop complex data workflows including batch and API-based integrations.
• Drive Technical Innovation: design prototypes and scalable data solutions balancing tech excellence with business needs.
• Champion Data Governance: implement metadata management, data quality, lineage, and governance practices.
• Enable Data Curation: guide data curation policies across platforms and workflows.
• Support and Mentor Teams: mentor teams through design reviews, code reviews, and testing.
• Collaborate on Technology Strategy: partner to document roadmaps and cloud modernization initiatives.
• Elevate Engineering Excellence: contribute to coding standards, CI/CD, and test automation.
• Enhance Reliability and Observability: improve pipeline monitoring and operational visibility.
• Leverage Modern Tools: use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.
• Partner Across Functions: work with governance, security, and platform teams to deliver reusable data products.
• Communicate Technical Expertise: present topics to engineering audiences and grow capabilities.
• Ensure Compliance and Security: follow regulatory and information protection requirements.
