Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to lead design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage systems for solar and storage projects. The role provides technical direction, engineering oversight, and ensures safety and reliability, with work conducted remotely.

The candidate will mentor engineers, manage interfaces with utilities and AHJs, and coordinate with vendors to deliver high‑quality BESS solutions. Strong leadership and rapid problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Expert knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis and simulation tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NFPA, utility standards).
• Experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Knowledge of SCADA/EMS communication protocols (IEC 61850).
• Project management including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• EPC workflows experience and coordination with engineering partners.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical SME for BESS engineering scopes and guide project teams.
• Lead the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems, ensuring compliance with contracts and utilities.
• Review feasibility studies and system sizing to recommend optimal BESS configurations.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with engineering partners.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Support testing, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
