Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for its production systems. You will blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single pane of glass for health, debugging and improvement.

This role is highly hands-on and emphasizes rapid iteration, quality, and maintainability while maintaining high reliability standards.

Qualifications

4+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
Proficient with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
Experience shipping web apps using React or Vue.
Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a major feature with clean, extensible design.
Ability to make significant changes in a large code base with safe tooling.
Strong communication and collaboration across global teams.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
Collaborate with product management, design and analytics in ideation and decision-making.
Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call duties.
Set and improve code review and design standards across the team.
Develop talent by providing feedback and mentoring.
