Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a reliability platform for production systems, combining distributed systems with AI-assisted development. You will own quarterly goals, lead engineers through ambiguity, and ensure reliability and quality across services.

You will collaborate with product, design and analytics, define technical plans for major features, and advocate for robust tooling, metrics, and on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps using React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation and guidance with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant design.
• Proven track record of making significant changes safely in a large codebase.
• Strong communication skills for global collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics from ideation to delivery.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts and on-call efforts.
• Foster quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards.
• Develop talent by providing feedback and leading by example.
